Just imagine being in your late 30s, moving your family from another state, and starting from scratch in the brokerage business. I made the rounds, heard about pipeline business, national relationships, and the power of the machine. These are very attractive and proven formulas that work today, no doubt. Then I met with a couple guys that said, “we are player coaches; we built a business from relationships, and we will never be the biggest. But here is a blank sheet of paper, here is a whiteboard; let’s build our own formula.” Then the CEO asked me, “How do you want to grow the business? What do you want to do? WE can help you get there; WE want to do this with you. Let’s GO.”
Seven years later, it’s fun to talk about numbers and what we have accomplished, but what seems more appropriate and authentic is how I feel when I think back on the past years at Foundry. I feel proud. I feel energized. I feel like I have been treated fair. I feel like leadership cares. I feel like we emerged during the COVID pandemic. I feel like there is real culture.
