The foundation of what would become Foundry Raleigh was laid in January of 2012. Three brokers and I set out to build a new office in the Raleigh-Durham market with Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer.
The 100-year old company that we joined was well-established in the Virginia market, but the physical office in Raleigh wasn’t at all ready for us. Our bare-bones space was definitely a challenge, but nothing was going to get in the way of several “type A” brokers and a professional organizer on a mission! We hit the ground running, stopping only to periodically reassure each other that we had made the right decision. The days were long, but we worked hard to lay the groundwork for a high-performing, efficient and profitable office.
In July 2013 John Kelly came on board to provide leadership that would help us become a full-service agency by the end of that year. We had outgrown our humble 3,000 square-foot office and were in need of additional space. John was able to strategically secure the leasing and management assignment of Crabtree Overlook, and in March 2014 we moved into almost 10,000 square feet of office space that was considerably more modern than what we had before.
At that point I was able to turn my focus to processes, procedures and culture, building a library of checklists, training tips and templates we continue to use regularly. When the opportunity to join Foundry came along in 2015, it was an easy decision. We’d been operating for years with an all-for-one-and-one-for-all mentality and it was clear to see that dynamic also at work in and around Foundry.
What we’ve built in Raleigh has been driven by five core principles. We strive to keep these principles alive as we continue to grow, and I firmly believe the best is yet to come!
One | Best-In-Class Talent
We recognize and actively recruit for talent – in fact, every Foundry Raleigh broker was a competitor of ours at one point or another. We have best-in-class talent at every level, from our building engineers to our partners and everyone in between, and experienced industry veterans lead each of our tenants.
Two | Process Driven
Establishing processes and procedures for day-to-day operations was an early and ongoing priority. An organized environment promotes efficiency and, most importantly, allows us to focus energy on developing people as well as portfolios.
Three | Dynamic Support
We were intentional about creating a support team with players valued for their individual strengths sharing a workload equally. The Raleigh Dynamic Support Network conisistently produces best-in-class materials with extreme attention to detail. And to top it all, not a day goes by without someone offering help or moral support to a teammate.
Four | Teamwork
Collaboration is paramount in Raleigh and drives our pitches and proposals. We’re a detail-oriented team focused on maximizing value for our clients. We win as a team, we lose as a team, and supporting each other through it all is what holds us together.
Five | Create Genuine Culture
Our associates genuinely care for each other and we make it a priority to extend that care and concern in making our guests feel welcome as well. The collaboration mindset is ingrained in us and we value each other above all. We’ve even established Culture Clubs to get to know one another, serve our commuity and have some fun together. How much better can a work environment get?
